"It is a real mecca for surfing and bodyboarding fans, because here the waves are not only great but have the ideal wind and weather conditions. Is right in front of our Surf Base. Considered the best wave in Portugal and one of the best in Europe. Where part of the World Championship of Surf takes place. This wave is fast and tubular which brakes on a hollow sand bank.

The best thing about the Peniche & Baleal peninsula is that the beaches face both north and south, and are all within a few kilometres of each other. So on nearly all conditions there is surf - it is well known as one of Portugal's most consistent surf destinations and a great place for a Surfing Holiday.
The WSL World Tour comes to Peniche every year in October and is a great time to visit if you want to watch the worlds best surfers such as Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina & Mick Fanning battle it out to win. Surf everyday while watching the event also.
The areas main surf beach is called Cantinho da Baía, its starts in Peniche and ends up in the area knows as Baleal. The spot is famous for its consistency and for being ideal for beginners and intermediate surfers and is where some of the best Baleal Surf Camps are located. Protected from the bigger swell by the headland makes it’s almost always possible to surf here even when there is big swell hitting the coast. The beach stretches 4kms further west with many spots to surf - a great place to get away from crowds.
On the other side of the Baleal headland is Prainha, another great protected surf spot for beginner and intermediate surfers. And next to this is Lagide , a reef break and one of the best surf spots in Portugal if you have big swell and southerly winds. It's a long perfect left with a shallow reef at low tides - great for intermediate/advanced surfers.
On the other side of Peniche (south) is the area's and arguably Portugal's most famous break Supertubos . It's a powerful wave breaking in very shallow sand bar, advanced/pro surfers only! Other waves such as Molhe Leste, Consolação, Porto Batel and Almagreira are all close by giving every kind of alternative including many uncrowded areas; a great area to explore and Surf Portugal's best waves!
And don't forget you can head south and surf Ericeira - less than an hour's drive away.

Great hostel with beautiful rooms and welcoming and very friendly staff! Hostel is just a short walk from the beach.

How did you like the accommodation?
The accommodation was very tidy and not too far from the main town, Peniche. It was very close to a top beach which was convenient. The beach bars and restaurants were close by and very good value for money. The main reason for such an enjoyable stay was due to the excellent hosts of Next Level Surf Camp, they not only were more than accommodating but took the time and effort to personally show us around an give us a good orientation of the highlights of Peniche and the local area. They were better than any backpackers or hostel I have stayed in so far.
How were the surf lessons with Peniche Surf School?
We really enjoyed our surf lessons. They were relaxed and very informative.

How did you like the accommodation?
The rooms and house were very well kept and clean. The house had a kitchen and cooking utensils. The staff was very kind. The location is not too far from the beach and it's about a 7-8 Euro ride to the city of peniche. Although the place supposedly offers free pick up and drop off, we had to pay Next Level for drop off at the local bus station.
How were the surf lessons?
The beaches were great. The beach closest to the house had really big waves that are too large for beginners in the afternoon.

How did you like the accommodation?
The accommodation was perfect. Big house, with all the shared facilities at the ground floor (huge kitchen and living room) and big and clean shared rooms upstairs. Everything was clean and well maintained. The house is located right in front of supertubos beach, in Peniche.
Regarding the hosts, I can just say that the guys of next level are just the best, they are not only super-welcoming host, but they immediately become great friends of us. They showed us around the area, brought us to some very typical restaurant, outside touristic track, where we experienced great food at ridiculously cheap prices. Great experience, warmly suggested.
How were the surf lessons?
The guys of Next Level delivered us great surf lessons. They personally go and check every single spot before picking you up to make sure to bring you to the best possible location for your surfing level. We were three people, all with different surfing levels, but they managed to provide to each one of us exactly what needed to step up our surfing level. They were taking care of us every single moment, also taking pictures and videos, very useful to review after the lessons our areas of improvement.
