Season
Best time to go depends on your level above. July, August & September are the peak tourist months.
This is where you surf Europe's best coast line and let the fun begin. There are over 12 surf breaks along the Ericeira coast, with different options for all standards. With so much choice you'll feel like a kid in a sweet shop! The area was introduced in the Stormriders Surf Guide to Europe with the heading "Enter the Heartland".
World Surf Reserve
In 2011 it was awarded the title of 'World Surf Reserve', there are only 2 other places in the world that share the title: Santa Cruz, US and Manly, Australia.
If it is your first surfing holiday to Ericeira then head straight to Foz do Lizandro and Sao Juliao beaches south of town, they are perfect beginner and intermediate surf spots. Closer to town is Praia do Sul. Another great beginner beach breaks. All best at mid tide but surfable at high and low tide also.
For Intermediates you have the reliable and safe reef break Ribeira d'Ilhas, which host the WSL World qualifying series surf championships every year. And for the more adventurous you have the world class Coxos. That's just naming a few, there are too many surf breaks to mention here!
Don't forget to explore further up the coast - 25 minutes away is Santa Cruz and an hour away is Peniche, home to the World renowned Supertubos and host of the Rip Curl Pro since 2009. 30 minutes south of Lisbon is the Cascais coast with the famous Praia do Guincho surf beach. And when north winds are blowing you can venture further south towards Carcevelos beach and the other surf spots along the Lisbon coast.

How were the surf lessons?
We took surflessons by '3 surfers surfschool'. It's a small school with very helpfull instructors. They work with small groups. We had 2 instructors for 6 persons. They stay in the water to give explanation, and to push you and give feedback.
Also very clear appointments, they come to pick you up.
Very recommended!

How were the surf lessons?
We surfed with 3 Surfers Surf School. We booked beginner lessons over 4 days. The instructors were brilliant. Their English was crystal clear. They were very thorough and looked after us superbly.
We surfed on Ericeira Beach, this is a mix of sand and rocks, which we were a little unsure of to start, but this really wasn't an issue at all. The instructors took us to the safest areas in the sea and the wetsuit shoes really helped when walked over the rocks.

How were the surf lessons?
I went with 3 Surfers. They were really professional, friendly and encouraging. I must admit I found surfing much tougher than expected and I didn't stand up for as long as I'd have liked. However, I learnt a lot in my three lessons and definitely caught the surfing bug. They also taught my daughter (aged 10) and she stood up on her second go! 'You're a natural'' the instructor told her. She couldn't have been happier! I
The beaches are really nice and great for surfing. However, Praia do Matadouro, where we had our lessons, was quite busy with surfing classes. I'd like to come back when it's quieter - apparently October is the best time.

How were the surf lessons?
Yesterday I had a surf class with Joao and it was so much fun! The whole experience was wonderful Joao and his colleague Joaquim guided me through every step- from getting the wet suit on (which was brand new) to driving us to the beach with the best surfing conditions. Joao gave very clear and thorough safety instructions before we got in the water. He was in the water with me the entire time coaching me and providing me feedback after every single wave. I have done a surf camp before and have never had so much attention and care from an instructor. Joao and his colleagues are experienced surfers that truly care about giving you the best surf experience in Ericeira. This was the highlight of my trip and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn to surf in a professional, safe and fun atmosphere! I can't wait to come back and surf with them again

How were the surf lessons?
3Surfers is not just the name of cozy surf school it's the name of special atmosphere which is made by professional coaches at each lesson. The equipment is new, location and communication is very good, and the most important thing is coaches who explain everything in theory, show in practice and ready to answer all questions. And also they are very good and friendly people with excellent sense of humor!
Thank you very much!
Hope to come again...
