Location

Azur is a typical french village close to all amenities and ideally situated to visit the region. If you are surfers , walkers , golfers, like to shop or just like to chill out this area is for you.

There are many breathtaking spots along the coast road between here and San Sebastian. We are 20 minutes from Capreton and Hossegor, 8 minutes from Messanges and 10 mins from Moliets and Vieux Boucau surf beach, 35mins from Biarritz and Bayonne the Basque country capital! We are also surrounded by many "secret surf spots"...

The Place

The Secret Spot Lodge is a hundred year old farm house recently renovated to a high standard.We have five bedrooms, 2 upstairs with ensuite and 3 downstair with shared bathroom, a large lounge area and dining room. A large sundeck with a pool to relax around,and an external kitchen, all set in 1200m of garden with free & secure parking. Our lodge is just 8 minutes from the beautiful beach of Messanges, which is one of the best surf spot in France.
Surf lessons any level, surf packages, guiding and equipment are available.

How did you like the accommodation?

     

Secret Spot Lodge is a brilliant base to explore the surf around the area. The house is super comfortable and it feels really like a home. Nelly and Troy go out of their way to make sure things are running smoothly. Important point to note: it is very important to have your own car as the house is not close to many amenities.

Hi Frederique, thanks for your review. Yes a car is advisable as in this area of France beaches and villages are set apart, the amenaties however are only a short cycle ride away on our bikes. This is mentioned on our site.
No warning really needed for the surf. It may be better to check surf seasons of where you are going before you book your next surf trip. In the spring time and summer in this area there are small friendly summers waves great for beginners and improvers like yourself. October in France has a very well known and documented big wave season and has been on the surfers path for decades , thus the Quiksilver Pro France being held during your stay.

Troy is a brilliant instructor - patient, knowledgeable and encouraging.
But be warned: France's surf is brutally strong, especially in October!

How did you like the accommodation?

     

The owners, nelly and troy are so welcoming and friendly and the accommodation is beautiful, very nicely decorated and a lush seating area and swimming pool outside. It's only a 10 minute drive to moliets which is a huge beach with lots of restaurants, if you fancy a treat try hotel l'ocean. We traveled the rest of the coast south to Spain and came back to moliets as it was our favourite.

How did you like the surf lessons?

     

My husband and I had 2 lots of lessons. We have had lessons from other instructors and found troy excellent, his knowledge, patience and safety were second to none and he gave us loads of tips of where to surf that was suited to our level, and more importantly, where not too. Look forward to more lessons next year!

Surf Lessons we offer:

Kids Surf Lessons

We take kids from 6 years old or younger if they can swim. The beach is chosen specially , so that the kids can have gentle waves and enjoy the first taste of the surfing world. Verbal assesments are done will the parents and kids before the lesson , so that everbody is happy and understands exactly how the lesson will be run. We require the prescene of parents on the beach. Lessons are 1.5 hours

Beginner Surf Lessons

Taken from an intro to board and equipment through to “popping up” and riding a clean wave. Includes equipment during the 1.5h lesson and transport to the beach. After a couple of hours of tuition Troy will have the majority of you standing and after a few lessons you should have a good enough understanding of the safety and technical aspect of surfing to go and enjoy it yourself.

Intermediate Surf Lessons

So many people have had an intro and want to get beyond the beginners stage. No need to waist time on the intro,s we will take you straight into a more advanced lesson , working on improving your surfing technique. Includes equipment during the 1.5h lesson and transport to the beach. If you want to take your surfing to the next level, Troy will help you progress faster, refine your technique and m

Advanced Surf Lessons

A short verbal assesment before the lesson will be done to allow us to formulate a lesson according to the surfers ability and also to address any areas that need brushing up on or any goals that the surfer wants to achieve. The lesson is 1.5 hours and includes any equipment required. Our instructor is licensed to teach 8 students, although we will always try to keep the groups small.

Surf Guide

Our local surf guide Troy, has been surfing this area for over 30 years and guarantees that you WILL find the best sand banks or reefs for that day. You’ve come on a surf trip , so treat yourself, take advantage of local knowledge and get the quality waves for that day or for the entire trip on a daily surf trip basis.
