The Stoked beach hostel has opened it’s doors for another season! If you're looking for more than your average hostel experience then you’ve come to the right place. We are a small hostel looking to bring together like minded travelers, surfers, chillers, adventurers, partiers … everyone together to create some good times and amazing memories
Tucked away in the quiet coastal neighbourhood of Polhena in the south west of Sri Lanka, Stoked Beach Hostel offers a retreat away from the rush of day to day life and a break in our little piece of Sri Lankan paradise. Here you can explore the local area and immerse yourself in island life, whilst only being a short cycle or tuk tuk ride from some of the south west’s most beautiful beaches, and best surf spots.
Our team live on site and are passionate about creating an amazing experience during your stay. Exploring, water to sports, workouts, and good times with new friends are at the heart of what we do.
The team will make you feel like one of the family and everyday gives the opportunity, to surf, snorkel, chill at the beach and head for a few sunset beers.
Watersport equipment, such as surfboards, snorkels, and bicycles are all available to borrow at no extra charge.
The Kitchen is open to use, and we have our local chef Gawri cooking up delicious Sri Lankan food for breakfast and lunch daily for you to try
Fitness classes run from our onsite exercise zone, and professional surf coaching is available on request.
Location
The south west of Sri Lanka is blessed with an excellent variety of waves, for all levels of surfers. Located in Polhena; Stoked is only a short journey away from a number of these great breaks.
The closest beach, Polhena Beach is less thn 100m away and is a great spot for swimming and snorkeling with sea turtles. One of the South's best spots, Madiha surf point, is only a 10 minute cycle away. Bikes are free of charge at the camp, making getting to and from the beach easy.
A number of other surf breaks in the area are easily and cheaply accessible by Tuk Tuk, which we at the camp re happy to help organise and point you in the right direction.
Polhena, a suburb of Matara, is a sleepy neighbourhood which feels a million miles away from the nearby city. It's close proximity to Matara makes Stoked a great place to explore the local area, with a number of great bars, restaurants and shopping nearby. The distance from the city also allows easy access by/to public transport, with Matara train station and bus station both within a few KM.

Beginner Surf Lessons
If you're new to surfing you are in good hands. Our ISA qualified instructors will cover everything you need to know to start your surfing journey and progress through the week with confidence. We like to keep our groups small to ensure you get lots of personal feedback from our coaches to help you improve faster.
Intermediate Surf Lessons
For those who have some experience, but maybe feel there surfing has plateaued our coaches can point you in the right direction.
Surf theory, surf skate practice, surf fitness and lots of time in the water with our coaches. We will take you the the best spots, both beach and reef, depending on conditions and through coaching plus video analysis help you take your surfing to the next level.

Season
November - March is the dry season and has the most consistent surf.
Weligama is a perfect beginner and intermediate surf break. It is arguable the most consistent beach break on the South Coast.
Only a quick 4KM and ten minutes by tuk-tuk from Weligama is the idyllic Mirissa. A quiet stretch of beach that has turquoise and crystal clear waters on beaches fringed by palms.
Mirissa is an established stop-off for surfers, with two breaks at either end of the beach. There is a right-hander reef break near the rocks that doesn’t generate much power, that is great for those who are progressing on to reef. And an equally good left-hander close to the harbour.

How did you like the accommodation?
We stayed at Stoked Surf and Health Camp for a week in the beginning of February. We felt welcomed straight away. The atmosphere is very relaxed and chill and we were able to do be a part of all the activities but also explore these parts of Sri Lanka on our own. The food is made by a local lady called Gawri and she cooked the most amazing food. The best we've had during our stay in Sri Lanka.
How were the surf lessons?
Jack is an amazing surf instructor with a lot of patience and we learned so much during the lessons. We really recommend this place if you want to improve your surf skills, get into yoga, be active or just relax. This place has something for everyone!

Travelled solo
How did you like the accommodation?
I originally booked in for a week long surf and yoga package and ended up staying for three. The camp’s location is ideal- in the quieter area of the south coast while still being close to the popular spots. The cook gauri was fantastic - she made us the best local fresh cuisine every morning and lunch. Tess, the dog, put a smile on my face every morning. I’d thoroughly recommend Stoked to anyone who is looking for a peaceful yet adventure packed week or more. I will be back soon

Jack was a great instructor and took us to some cool spots - he has the patience of a saint. He went out of his way to ensure we had the best possible stay

How did you like the accommodation?
Amazing long stay!
A friend and I stumbled across this gem online and decided to extend our one week stay to two.
The whole set up was authentic & warming, from early-rise yoga to beautiful cooked food from a local Sri Lankan chef - Gareé - our entire experience was nothing but positive.
Great location, food, company and an awesome host.
Thanks Jack & we’ll be seeing you again for sure!
