La Tierra Divina
Reviews (5)
5 out of 5

La Tierra Divina is unique in that it offers separate, round shaped cabinas in which you will enjoy the privacy and beauty of nature that envelopes the property.

Each cabina offers a microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot, and television with a selection of movies to choose from.

The property also has a nice refreshing pool to relax, while enjoying the amazing ocean and jungle views.

We do not have a restaurant onsite, but we can make homemade, personal pizzas and deliver them to your cabina for only $5 each.

Location

We are located about 3 hours from San José, and only 3km or a five minute drive from the beach. We are located 3km from Dominicalito surf beach (great for beginners), and 8km from Playa Hermosa surf beach (great for advanced surfers). We are also only 10 minutes from Dominical, which is one of the best surfing locations in Costa Rica, and also offers a wide selection of restaurants and shops.

How did you like the accommodation?

Troy & Becky's little slice of paradise was amazing! The jungle cabina was so well taken care of, designed, clean and well stocked. The bed was super comfy, breakfast on the hill next to the pool overlooking the ocean was a great way to start the day. And that beautiful shower was great for getting all that beach gunk off! Troy steered us well in his suggestions of excursions and restaurants. Sadly, we were only able to stay 1 night and were very sad to have to leave in the morning. We had no complaints at all, only compliments. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it heartily to anyone (with a 4WD car!)

How did you like the accommodation?

This is an excellent place nestled in the hills overlooking the Dominical beach. The road to get there is a bit rough but we were able to make it in a 2WD sedan. The rooms are spacious and clean with an excellent view of the ocean. We were able to spot toucans and heard howler monkeys in the evening. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a getaway from the crowds in Quepos and Manuel Antonio. The location also offers excellent hikes and a beautiful waterfall close to the approach road

Playa Dominical

Level: All Levels

A popular beach for surfing and frequented by experienced surfers looking for good, consistent waves and a more laid back atmosphere. The beach at Dominical is about 2 kilometers long, from its northern river mouth to a rocky cliff on its southern end. A beach break with surf scattered along the entire stretch of beach, it offers the most consistent surf in the region (and possibly in the country) and when the swell gets good it’s known to offer up hollow and powerful waves. The best waves are typically found between the lifeguard towers and the river mouth on the north end.

Playa Hermosa

Level: All Levels

Playa Hermosa is frequented by surfers from Dominical to Uvita. When the surf at Dominical is too big and/or closing out you’re sure to find surfers out at Playa Hermosa. The waves break in two general areas: directly in front of the parking area and on the north end of the beach by the rocky hill that juts out into the water. A surf spot that is best suited for intermediate to level surfers, this break also provides fun waves for the experienced surfer. The spot can also be acceptable for beginners, so don’t be surprised to find groups of beginners from nearby surf schools out at Playa Hermosa from time to time.

Uvita

Level: Beginner

Though Uvita is not known for having great waves, it is an excellent place for beginner and intermediate surfers to continue developing their surfing ability. With a consistent offer of waves, no crowds whatsoever, and relatively safe ocean conditions for novices, Uvita is the place to learn to surf in the South Pacific.

Bahia Ballena

Level: Beginner

The beach at Bahia Ballena lies within the limits of the Ballena Marine National Park, stretching from Playa Uvita, also referred to as Punta Uvita (or “the whale tail”), all the way to the river mouth on the south end. Located just 15 minutes South of Dominical, Bahia Ballena is a little to known gem that offers visitors a much more relaxed environment where one can enjoy the outdoors without all the hustle and bustle of the popular tourist destinations.

The surf at Bahia Ballena is quite consistent with soft to breaking waves averaging about three to five feet in height (chest to head to high) and offering length of rides up to 150 yards long. In addition, the crowds are pretty much non to existent and safety risks are minimal. All these factors make Bahia Ballena a well to suited surf break for beginner and intermediate surfers.

The bigger swell season in the Central Pacific area is from May to November with waves consistently from 2-6 feet, sometimes bigger. Costa Rica's summer months & dry season is from December to April. Waves tend to be really fun clean 3-4 foot.

Surfing Jaco

The main beach in this surf town is a long 3 km beach break good for beginners and intermediates with many different peaks. If the swell gets above head high it tends to close out. South of the bay is Roca Loca, a right reef break that can hold up 10 feet at times.

Further south is Hermosa beach. It has a really good vibe to hang out, meet people and get in the water every day. It is a 7km long dark sandy beach breaks that works best on high tide. If you want to escape the crowd head further south. The beach packs a punch and when it's bigger it will rip those board shorts right off you and challenge even the best surfer.

Further along the coast you will find Esterillos about 10k south of Hermosa. Another fun beach break that is a swell magnet and if your looking for an uncrowded wave, take a walk down the beach and pick a peak.

Still heading south you will find other spots include Seco, Bejuco and Playa Espadilla, a great beginners surf beach in the popular surf town of Manuel Antonio.

Surfing Dominical
Less crowded than other surf towns in Costa Rica. Dominical is a much longer trek from San José so it does not tend to get the same amount of surfers that Jaco has. Dominical is a wave magnet and has been called the most consistent surf spot in Costa Rica. The towns main break, Playa Dominical works best on Mid to high tide as at low tide it can be just a shore dump. It tends to be a better spot for Advanced, intermediates as it can get powerful.

2km south is Dominicalito, a beachbreak that is great for beginners. Further on 1 km is The point, with rides of up to 250 meters! There are many more breaks to be discovered, and teh further on south you go the emptier the breaks.
