The island is only 22kms across so there are plenty of other options to explore further East, West and North. Below are a selection of options along the South Coast
South Point
One of the most consistent spots on the island. Breaks over flat reef and can produce fun lefts.
Surfers Point
A great beginners beach break and longboarders wave. Perfect for kids also.
Freights
Sand bottom left, not the most consistent but can produce some glorious long intermediate waves and photo perfect tropical barrels.
Silver Sands
Consistent fun right reefbreak that can get more interesting as the swell increases.
Brandons
Right and Left reef break , on the less consistent South West side!
Crane Beach
On the Eastern South side. Very consistent beach break that suits all standards.
Long Beach
Long beach can have some really fun waves and is a great go to spot on a daily basis. It can close out and be hard to read at times but always worth a look.

How did you like the accommodation?
Moonrakers is only a short 15 minute drive from the airport (for 15 usd) and also a 15 minutes drive to oistin (the nearest city). The rooms are basic with a shower directly in the bedroom and not much to expect. Not so clean and comfy as expected, but acceptable for some days if you are surfing or exploring anyway.
There is a small beach just minutes away, which is sooo beautiful and perfect for a small dip in the ocean (not for long swims, the current and waves are too strong). Another good thing is the bar right at the properity, it is beautiful and has great food and drinks. It opens up at 4 pm, so you have to take care of breakfast and lunch yourself and as mentioned earlier there is not much around.
We havent found one place to eat lunch, that is reachable by foot. So we rented a car and drove to Miami Beach or Oistins for lunch. Moonrakers would be an amazing place if it would be looked after a little more. The garden would be beautiful if kept neat and the people are great nonetheless!!
How were the surf lessons with Bodie's School of Surf ?
Amazing!!

How did you like the accommodation?
Moonraker is a nice lodge but there are a number of pros and cons:
- Pros: nice rooms, simple but functional, lovely gardens and pools, good restaurant on site for evening meals and drinks; nice vibe; late check-out as no other customers were following; Steve makes you feel welcome.
- Cons: felt a bit isolated - no other bar or restaurant within 3.5km; local shops basic; level of service of the rooms super basic; it was low season - the restaurant did not open for breakfast...
How were the surf lessons with Ride The Tide Surf School Barbados?
Ride the Waves: great school. Jay is a brilliant instructor who is working hard to give the best experience to the students - careful selection of the beaches; low number of students; variety of boards on offer. Jay is super reliable too and a very nice guy!

How did you like the accommodation?
We had an amazing trip! We stayed at Moonraker Barbados. I’ve never gotten so relaxed so quickly on a holiday and especially as it was only a week that was great as we fully enjoyed every day. The pace of life on the island probably is why we slowed down so easily. The people are so incredibly friendly also.
Moonraker was brilliant, perfect for windsurfing, kite surfing and surfing. Directly in front is great for windsurfing and kite surfing, surfing we needed to head to nearby Freights or South Point which we walked to in about 20 mins which was perfect. From what I saw around the island (we rented car for 2 days) Moonraker was by far the best accommodation for us. We surfed twice every day, mostly we surfed Freights which is a really mellow left hander and there are turtles in the water with you, amazing! We also surfed South Point which is a heavier reef break slightly closer to Moonraker. Freights was my favourite though, it was breath taking beautiful, possibly my favourite place I’ve ever surfed. The water is so clear and the most incredible colour and so warm!!!
As I mentioned we rented a car for 2 days to explore the island a bit. We went up the west coast to visit the Mount Gay Rum visitor centre, a brilliant tour and lots of lovely rum was had! Great to get some of the history of the island too. We travelled to the east of the island also which is far more agricultural and very little sign of tourism which is great to see.
Steve and Nicki who run Moonraker are brilliant, they couldn’t do enough for us. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else when we go back.
I would recommend Barbados for any surfer of any level. Be warned that groceries are not cheap as anything that doesn't grow there has to be imported. The fish market in Oistins is the best place for fresh fish, rum punch and local atmosphere.
We'll definitely be going back!
