Noja's
clear blue ocean offers endless surfing possibilities –
the area stretching from Santander
to Bilbao has over 70 different beaches
from inland beaches
protected from bays and coves to those directly exposed to the
rolling waves
of the Cantabrian Sea.
Noja's
main surf beach is Ris.
It is a beachbreak
that is perfect for beginners and for intermediates.
It is very sheltered from the wind. The surrounding is beautiful
with a tiny island that can be reached on foot at low tide.
Lessons
We
team up with Ris
Surf School, right by the beach and the Apartments,
to offer surfing and
body boarding lessons. We also offer surf
equipment to rent.

lessons are slightly more expensive because the maximum number
of children is 4 per teacher
Ris
surf school is officially licensed through the FES
(Spanish
Surfing Federation) with fully qualified instructors and
follows all safety standards.

Surf
Beaches
You can of course take to the water and explore for yourself…
There are 2 beginners
beach break at Ris – one is the
main Ris beach
and the other is over a few dunes and slightly quieter.
The two Ajo
beaches are another very consitent
beach break and great for beginners. They are usually
very good when most other places are small. It’s a 5
minute drive from Ris through some rolling hills.
El Brusco
is the towns famous break – at 1-2 metres its perfect
for intermediate and when it gets bigger it becomes an excellent
hollow beachbreak
Beside El Brusco is Berria
– a beautiful long beach with a magnificent
green hill at either end. Ideal for beginners and intermediate
and often less crowded.
They are just the beaches
in Najo – explore to the west and east and you will
find incredible surf
in Sopelana, the famous
tow in big wave at Santa
Marina, and also Laredo,
Menakoz
and Mundaka.
