- Surf
Because the beach
here is continous without any headland interupting it there
are plenty of waves
to go around!
Capbreton
has 7 km of beaches starting at the busy side of town and
extending south where sand dunes and pine forest merge gently
with the incredible beauty of the vast expanse of the Atlantic
Ocean. The beaches by the main street are perfect
for beginners
and
intermediate surfing standards
Across
the harbour is Hossegor,
another great place to learn and for those more experienced
the opportunity to surf
the breaks where the Worlds No.1 surfers duke it out every
September in the ASP
World Championship
Tour.
Lessons
We team up with Ecole de Surf on Hossegor’s La Sud beach
– the best place to start
surfing in the area and close to all our accommodation

Surf Beaches
The Aquitaine coast line is a great place to explore – the main destination in the area are Capbreton
to the south, Hossegor
and Seignosse
to the north.
At the top of Capbreton is the groms area – sheltered
and perfect for young beginners. Further down is La
Piste, an excellent stretch of gold beach with many
sand banks that
work in through the tides for all standards of surfers.
Head further south and the waves get quieter and quieter!
Then heading back north to Hossegor starting at La
Sud beach, perfect for beginners
and intermediate surfers.
For those who are willing to tackle the big waves there is
the legendary La
Nord and La
Graviere, host to pro-surfing competitions in
huge conditions.
The
beaches reach Seignosse
a few km’s north – here Les Bourdaines
is perfect for longboarders,
and Le Penon is a real quality beach
break that’s a bit quieter and just as much fun.
Further south is Biarritz
with its classic
waves and stunning cliffs. And down by St.Jean de Luz
is Belharra, made famous in 2003 when locals
shocked the world by riding its 66ft peak!
