Once of the most exciting places to be every summer is south west France.  Think endless golden beaches stretching from Hendaye all the way to Bordeaux, with countless waves breaking day after day.

One of the cultural centers of “le sud ouest' is the chic Basque city of Biarritz.  Every summer there are all types of surf festivals held on the beach or in the museums.  To help you plan when to go for your French surf holiday here are some of the top surf festivals in Biarritz:

  • Roxy Jam Biarritz 2011

13th - 17th July

The world's best female longboarders come together to surf the picturesque Vieux Port beach.  The event is coming into its 6th year, and has developed into an art, culture and music festival that celebrates female surfers and artists.

  • Rip Curl Music Festival 2011

Around 19th - 20th August (dates to be confirmed)

Over the past decade Rip Curl have held WQS contests at the famous beaches of Hossegor, Capbreton and Biarritz. However, things have changed in recent years with a bigger focus on the music event, and the location now being in Biarritz only.  The concert is massive, especially as it's free and people travel from all over Europe to come party with the ocean in the background.
