  • We had been to Zarautz last year and had stayed in a town centre hotel so we knew a little about the town. Our daily routine was a walk down to the promenade (takes around 15 minutes) and a leisurely stroll along the promenade watching the (mainly) Spanish people enjoying the beach and the surf. At the end of the prom we turned into the old town where there are lots and lots of cafe bars where you can sit and watch the world by. There are a couple of local supermarkets that stay open through the 3hr (1pm to 4pm) siesta. The area at the bottom of the hill from the apartment when walking into town is called San Pelaio and there are several bars and a grocery shop there. There is also a railway station here to San Sebastian so it's not necessary to walk to the main station in the town. Trains to San Sebastian are half hourly the fare is less than 4euros return and it takes around thirty minutes. The apartments are modern, clean and comfortable. We were on the first floor with a balcony. There is a lift. We overlooked the car park, the main road and the narrow gauge railway so we spent a lot of time on the balcony watching the world go by whilst enjoying a glass or three of the local brews. We met three of the receptionists while we were there. Two young ladies and a young man. All spoke English and were very helpful, especially Mi, a delightful Basque beauty who could not do enough for us. Note car parking in town is difficult and in the high season almost impossible - John and Pam, Cheadle Cheshire

  • The Apartment was great – Mi the manager of the apartment was exceptionally helpful and hospitable. Zarautz was fantastic in that it seemed to be more of a local holiday destination than tourist, we were able to test out our limited Spanish conversation as the local restaurants all spoke in Spanish (and had limited English to get out of trouble!). We got a few waves on one day, however although the surf wasn’t the best at the time – the beach was happening but not too crowded so we spent most of our town there. We made it to San Seb on one day, it was ideal, a 15minute drive – and an attractive drive at that. We parked in the main shopping centre car park for 8-9 hours and it only cost €13 euro so stayed there for some food and drinks in the evening before heading back. All in all – we had a great time there, thanks again – Joel, Brisbane, Queensland

  • We thought Zarautz was a really lovely town. I had only ever been to the costa del sol area in Spain before and we found it much different! The people were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was really nice, a bit of a walk from the beach but we had rented a car so that was fine. The people on reception at the apartments were particularly helpful and recommended lots of nice restaurants. We went surfing 3 of the days. We were delighted to find the boards that Pukas surf school gave us and the wetsuits were of really good quality compared to previous experiences with rental places. The people there were very nice too. Overall we found the town had a really nice friendly atmosphere and we would definitely go back, I should probably learn some Spanish before the next time though! - Martina, Dublin

  • This is the second time we booked through your website and both times it was great. The other time was in Ericeira, Portugal. We loved Zarautz and the apartment and the surf lessons where great. We did not have good weather every day but we had a great time. The people in Zarautz are very nice and the pinxtos on the bar where really delicious. We also went a day to San Sebastian and that is a nice city to. We only went shopping but you can do that all day long. Getaria we liked it for an afternoon – Monique, Heemskerk, Netherlands

  • We had the best time! We did 4 nights in Zarautz and 4 in Biarritz. Both apartments - especially Talaimendi in Zarauz - were incredible. The terrace we had in Talaimendi was bigger than my whole flat ha! We didn't see a great deal of the surf competition - a little early for us - but we enjoyed the atmosphere and saw some of the bands and stuff at night. Biarritz was beautiful, if a little expensive, but 4 nights was perfect. Travelling between the two was a breeze too, very impressed with the trains and coaches in the area - Rebecca, Sophie and Rachel, London

  • Best. Holiday. Ever. The apartment was amazing , Zarautz is a perfect little town and the fact that San Sebastian is so close really cemented the deal. We partied in San Sebastian and just chilled in Zarautz. The surf school people were so nice and really helpful and our instructor was just fantastic - me and the other 2 are all at different levels and they catered for all of us. really think my surfing improved, met some amazing people and got to mingle with the glitterati at the film festival and at the surf competition in France. With regards to food and eating out, we mainly cooked ourselves, but the nightlife in san sebastian was pretty excellent. The holiday was so good and the people so amazing, that the 3 of us have decided to learn spanish and move to Spain for a month next june!! - Jennie, Dublin

  • The holiday was great all round - the area is fantastic, Zarautz beach just what we wanted, girls enjoyed surf lessons and it was great for bodyborading.   • We had a great time in Zarautz. The Apartment was quality and very walkable from the beach. The drive from Santander was cruisy (an hour and a half away and easy to find). The surf shop guys were very easygoing with taking various boards out and the lessons were decent too. We hit San Sebastian for the livelier nightlife and it didn't disappoint - Fran, Athlone, Ireland

  • Thanks for your e-mail. Yes we had a super time, the apartment was really modern and a great place to stay. Adur and our instructor Julen were so friendly and helpful in everyway. Zarautz was really nice. We went to San Sebastian one afternoon, we didn't hire a car but found the public transport very good.   • The apartments are top notch ! We had one of the top floor apartments which has a huge balcony/patio which was ideal for drying the gear. Tap on it for rinsing too. Zarautz (which I still cannot pronounce correctly !) is a really nice town. Similiar to SanSeb on a smaller scale. Some great restaurants for eating in as well as the Pinxto bars. Restaurant Karlos Arguinano and Kulixka are 2 we went to which are great. Would highly recommend it as a great base location for South West France and North Spain.45 mins to Biarritz, 1hr to Mundaka, and an hour and a bit to Hossegor with heaps of surf spots inbetween them all. I'll be heading back for sure with a few mates sometime. Long weekend is highly possible if you fly to Bilbao. Surf was great almost every day - largely its a intermediates dream most days - Trevor, Wicklow
