  • I had a brilliant time. The accommodation was fine, we had an apartment to ourselves. We had access to the hostel at all time for use of the WIFI and the TV and also for hanging out with other guests. So we had the best of both worlds. The surf lessons were good, very professional instructors and good fun also. It was good that we didn't have to go to all of the lessons if we didn't want to, we could come and go as we pleased. We managed to do a fishing trip Peniche which was brilliant fun. The staff in the school could not be more helpful. As for the beach house it was very sociable. It was the perfect meeting point for guests getting together and having a few beers. I spoke to an Australian guy who has stayed in hostels all over the world and he mentioned that he has never stayed in one as sociable as this one – Aidan, Dublin

  • Overall I had a great time. It’s an ideal spot for a single surfer; the surf lessons are really well done, and broken up well during the week. The two instructors really knew their stuff, I got loads of tips and lots of good advice. I stayed in one of the apartments, it’s really nice and clean, they brought me to the supermarket on the first night so i got a good bit of food for the week mostly breakfast and lunch stuff. There was surf every day and the waves were good lots of left hander's. nice and sunny too which always helps. I think i will go back to this place again, maybe towards the end of the session, when it’s not too busy. Thanks for all your help and time I pick the right place - Ross, Sligo

  • We had a GREAT time! Peniche was lovely... although I have to admit that we didn’t see much of it between chilling out at the house, surfing, yoga and the obligatory holiday drinking! Surfing was really good, once I got the hang of it! We all agreed that Steve was a brilliant instructor and Turqo was obviously very passionate about his sport and the history of it which was evident from the Surf factory tour, which really put the sport into real terms (for me anyway!) Both Steve and his brother Jason were excellent tour guides on our trip to Obidos providing facts and figures and answering ever question we could throw at them! The whole Peneche team (including “Beef” and “Come on”, the resident cats) helped to make our holiday super special, even the taxi driver, who drove us halfway round Peniche trying to find the surf house and then wouldn’t take any money for the fare! In fact there are at least four of us that are definitely planning on returning next year (or even later on this year) to do it all again. We were all very sad to have to leave after the week and although the tan may fade the photographs will serve as a reminder of a great experience, to be repeated ASAP! - Anita, Leeds

  • Holiday was absolutely fantastic. Surf and the instruction was great. Learned a lot and got rid of a few nasty habits I had picked up. Waiting to get back into the cold waters here to keep it up. It was my first time trying the Yoga but really enjoyed it. felt very relaxed after it. weather was mighty. nice and warm but not overly so. Peniche is some spot to relax and unwind and catch some good waves. house was A1. met up with some good people which really helped make the holiday. lots of beers and laughs at night !!!! all in all one of best holidays I've been on in a long long time. only fault I have is that it's in portugal and so far away !!!! i'd say i'll be in touch next year to organise a trip with Surfholidays !! - Tom, Galway

  • I had a great time on my surfing and yoga holiday in Peniche! Please pass on my thanks to all of the staff! My journey there was fairly easy thanks to Daniel who picked me up from the bus stop (especially helpfull as I was travelling on my own). The accommodation was fine and we made good use of the outside communal area. The yoga and surfing were a great combination however, from the website it did seem like that week would be dedicated to that course for all guests; so I was surprised to find that there were only 6 of us taking part in the yoga....Luckily they were a great bunch of people and Steven was a fantastic surfing instructor, so no complaints there! I would definitely recommend Surfholidays to my friends and will consider returning in the future for sure. In fact, if you are ever looking for another Yoga instructor I would be glad to step in! – Lauren, London I am still on holiday with my thoughts ;-). It was really great and I really enjoyed it. Surprisingly lovely and beautiful place, nice weather, delicious food ;-), super nice and friendly people in the beach house as well as in the office. Rooms were clean and had everything to make you feel comfortable. Seemed like all staff really enjoy what they do in their life. Our teacher Turku was fantastic. Great pro but at the same time strict enough not to give up when you feel hopeless ;-). Also I think the whole week was very well organized. Starting from picking me up from Penich plus all classes, trips (factory and around Peniche) and bbq between. Indeed, perfect place for a beginner like me. I also enjoyed that everything was on the beach, that you don't have to travel every day with all your equipment to beach, but can basically step with your board and wetsuit to waves. Very convenient. We were followed all the time by our photographer Sandy to keep those nice memories on the picture. I will definitely go surfing again - Anneli, Belgium

  • Baleal surfcamp was awesome! Teacher Franco was extremely patient with us, gave good tips and made us feel comfortable in the water. Highly recommend that dude as a surf instructor! Surfing is so much fun, even though probably the hardest sports I've ever tried. The only problem was that we only stayed there for such a short time. Camp crew was great, cheers to all of them! - Anna-Maija, Helsinki

  • Thanks we had a great week. The guys were great. Very friendly and helpful. They put so much effort into making the week a great experience, the instructors were great and we loved the quiet vibe, yet enough craic going on to have a bit of fun about the place. Could have done with a few less caprinhas.. but I think that is entirely my own fault! Accom was great; we were slightly worried it would be too much staying in the surf house, but was very international, very friendly and not too crazy. Yea can't say enough... would defo recommend - Aoife :), Dublin

  • I think the accommodation was nice. It was clean and well-located. Surfing was good, the instructors were friendly and professional and the conditions were pretty good as well. I liked the beach, it was nice that I didn´t have to worry about any rocks or anything while surfing. I also liked the Baleal area, the Beach bar and Bruno´s bar :)- Nea, Helsinki

  • I think its fair to say I am well and truely hooked. I was from day one! It was an absolutely fantastic holiday. One that will be hard to top. We all loved it and are planning a week again in October (the benefits of mid term breaks and teaching!) The whole trip was organised to perfection and I can not fault a thing. The area is great. Perfect amount of nightlife. Any wilder and we would have struggled to keep up with the amount of energy our instructors expected from us!! Thanks a mil for everything and I will definately be recommending you to friends. We'll be in touch re October. Sarah - Ireland

  • I had an absolute ball !! Am sick to be home. I have to say I've been on a few holidays and to many a different set up, but top marks to the surfcamp. It really is allround, all encompassing trip. I hadn't expected the whole photographer/video aspect which was a brilliant idea. I was lucky enough to have Louis and Nicos as instructors. Louis is from the local area and has a wealth of knowledge on everything to do with the area as well as surfing. It was like getting a personal guided tour of the area when he brought us on a day trip, and it was he who was able to talk and walk us through the surfboard factory at Fatum boards; a real allrounder. The crew at the office were absolutely charming, especially Katarina. All were really lovely people not just putting on a show for the tourists! genuinely out to help and make the holiday as carefree as possible. I was very envious of the whole set up - having the bar/surf house all in one on the beach, that you can walk straight into, rack the board enroute and sit down for a beer in the sun! not what I've been used to at Strand hill! Everything was generally made really easy - from the booking, to the instructions on getting to and from Peniche via shuttle bus, rede express bus - Fool proof! Down at the beach the surf house - they check what wetsuit you have so when you arrive the nest day they are waiting hangin u in order of your class - literally ready to go and the lads have the boards out and good to go - fantastic attention to detail! All in all I'll be going back for as long as work lets me next year! Dee :-) Dublin

  • Had an amazing time in Peniche- we absolutely loved it there. I was there last year too so it says a lot that i went back and even though i didn't think it was possible, it was even better this year!! The hostel was great (and thank you so much for the twin room for myself and my boyfriend). I also really liked the bigger kitchen since last yr! Surf was great too- a storm had just come in so there was a great swell! And yeah, of course we're pretty much pros by now! haha ;) Instructors were ABSOLUTELY brilliant!! We had Felipe and Steve and they were so great. Really accommodating of the fact that i had surfed a fair bit before but some of the others incl my boyfriend, Jimmy, were completely new. I learned loads and, with their help, gained a lot of confidence on the bigger waves! And they were both so friendly and fun. Felipe even lent us his tent for a week as we are now travelling down the coast camping. Actually we're heading back to Baleal tomorrow for another day and a half of surfing and to return the tent and we're both looking forward to hitting the waves there again. Anyway, as you can tell we really loved it! The whole place is great- atmosphere, people, accommodation. I can't think of a bad word to say about the place! And we will definitely be back!! - Yvonne and Jimmy, Brighton

  • Just home and already want to go back!! Its amazing, the place, the surf, the instructors, everything!!! Only wish I had an extra week over there!. Im not a pro just yet, but I definitely have caught the surf bug so Ill be making it a regular trip - Danielle, Dublin

  • Had a crackin' time, loved every minute of it. Don't think I'll be able to go on a "regular" beach holiday again. They were really, really, organised from the second I got off the bus, zero stress. Deffo a great place to go solo, most people were there on their own or had just gotten someone to go with them last minute - Fergal, Clare

  • It was brilliant. So well organised and very helpful people. Loved surfing but rubbish!! will definately try again. The hostel was brilliant and had everything that you needed. Surf instruction was Excellent for beginners - Natalie & Simon, London

  • I had a great holiday thanks. The expereince was great. It was my first time going away on my own and it couldn't have gone better. The hostels are very sociable as was everyone on the course. The surfing was great fun. I wasn't the most talented but i really enjoyed it. The instructors were very friendly and full of advice. I got some one on one time one day which really helped me improve. The accomodation was ideal. Loads of common areas, good kitchen facilities, BBQ, constant hot water. The area is really nice. The staff at the camp were very helpful. The collection and drop off at the bus station made the whole experience very easy. I would highly recommend - Fiona, Limerick

  • It is a great spot. We were also very lucky with the swell so surfing was superb. The stuff was friendly and I must say that the surf instructors (Turko and Gabi) were the best I have even met (and I did a couple of surfing courses before). The surf school and the bar at the beach have a magnificent location - Agnieszka & Martina, Warsaw

  • Had a really great holiday !!! i didnt really want to come home it was so peaceful there. the house was really good fun :) it was very clean and the mix of people made it very entertaining :) the guys at the surf camp were fantastic ...really patient and always smiling!! bruno's bar had really nice food too and the staff were friendly ... the guys at the surf house in the office were helpful always!!! the pro tour was there the week i was there and that added to the holiday as on the 'down time' there was something to do and see :) i would go back in the morning if i had any holidays left to take !!!!! - Eddie :) Liverpool

  • Yeah the holiday was excellent. Really enjoyed it. We got to see a lot of the contest too which was fairly impressive! There was a great buzz around the place for the week. The lessons were very good too, I improved a lot so was happy with that. Ended up buying a shorter board when i got home haha! I would definitely like to go again - Rory, Carrigaline

  • Had a great week.......really nice gang of permanent residents and people over for the week or whatever.............thought the yoga and surfing was a really good combination..........did the yoga early in the morning I really liked the way everything worked in a really laid back kind of way .... the shared house, the kitchen if you wanted to use it, meeting up at the surf house, could walk everywhere, the pick up at the bus station ( they forgot us but worked out grand!), really handy flight and transfer to peniche, lifts over to the surfing championships.........The lessons were great ...the teacher Joao was really good and the small group ( the yoga people did the lesson separately) was great.....They threw in a free massage which was a nice touch....... overall very reasonable holiday..... Deirdre, Dundrum

  • We had an amazing time and well up for doing it again. The crew in Baleal were so helpful, friendly and well organised. A great thanks to Daniel, Bruno and Marcos and of course a massive shout to Louis our instructor. We thought it was a great mix of theory, practice, culture and of course fun. I have to admit 4 days of surfing was enough (I might need to work on my fitness) but I could have stayed a whole lot longer. I already have a girlfriend keen to do another trip with me during our february half term holiday, maybe Faro this time though. Again a massive thanks, and I will be using surf holidays again - Renee & Carey, Fulham

  • Ive been moving around all through europe & scandanavia, and stayed in Baleal surfcamp for a week – it was awesome. The whole setup there is perfect, the vibe in the surfhouse, the facilities, the space and the cleanliness are all perfect. Location is good, yeah I had a good time. I scored a couple of smokin A frame lefts & rights one day at a place called 'secrets' , its within walking distance of the house. The consistency of the waves was good - there was always something to surf. All in all a great experience, and yeah I'd probably return when given the chance - Pete, Cronulla Beach, Sydney

  • It was a really nice holiday,  we all said we'd really like to go back there sometime. The classes were fantastic and the instructors were very nice and so helpful with everything. The surf camp was amazing, everything that was provided was really great, the staff were so friendly and went above and beyond what we expected. We were all delighted with the experience! Thanks again, Eileen, Sarah, Jane, Fiona, Patricia, Thomas - Ireland

  • First day back to work today. Going to take some getting used to! Baleal Beach House was amazing. It is a really cool spot. Excellent Surf and really nice, laid back people. Met loads of new friends from different parts of the world, perfect for a solo traveller like me. I did the first week surfing course and then had the odd extra surfs the next week. The Praia do Baleal was really nice, the beach was really long and hardly any tourists, mainly locals. Good selection of beach bars (especially 'Bar do Bruno') so got some quality partying in too! Caught some good waves, still need alot of practice though! Used muscles I never even knew I had! Two weeks went nice and slowly, seemed like two months! Would definitely recommend for beginners, regular surfers, group and solo travellers.. everyone! Will probably be in touch to arrange the next adventure! - Daniel - Chiswick, West London

  • We had a brilliant time thanks. surf school was brilliant with really nice instructors. such a good set up. we all had a fantastic time and will definitely be back. in fact, if they're ever looking for waitresses or bar staff, tell them to call me ;-)  it was awesome - Cheryl, Sarah, David, Donal, Anthony, Mark & Annette - Dublin, Kildare, oz and Wexford

  • It turned out to be exactly what we were hoping for. The waves were good all week and the sun came out nearly every day but most of all the instructors were fantastic and made sure that we got the most out of every surf session. The waves were rivalled only by the bizarre mood-altering potions at the Medieval festival on the last night, which truly was a highlight. The accomodation was great (we especially loved the panini-maker in the kitchen!) and it was suprisingly easy to feed five people on 15euro a day! All in all I would go back there tomorrow and can't wait for next year, thanks again - Sienna, Elizabeth, David, Maria & Tiffaney - Dublin

  • Well, what can I say?!  I had the best time in Baleal.  The beach is stunning, the weather was perfect and the surfing was tough but brilliant despite the many wipeouts!!  I caught some good waves and although still very much a beginner, my technique has definitely improved.  The thrill of catching a good wave made all the hard work so worth it!  The instructors were really great, very patient and encouraging.  There were only 5 of us in the class with 2 instructors so they were really able to watch you and help you progress.  We surfed in 3 different spots over the 5 days and it was obvious that the instructor really wanted the best conditions for the class.  It was much more intense than I expected and you really have to work hard for it.  In saying that though I really did enjoy it.The Beach house was great.  Only 2 mins to the beach and the supermarket, the bedrooms and kitchen were spotless and well equipped.  Everyone who worked there was very helpful and friendly.  I met some great people and will definitely return next year. Definitely a big thumbs up from me! - Edel, Dublin

  • Firstly i like to say a big thanks for making this holiday happen we all are depressed to be home so that's a good sign, some really nice days of surfing and other activities, accommodation was great, - Beach house and apartment were nice. The place was amazing the waves were so clean and so many different places to surf nearby. Instructors were a great bunch of guys, Silvano visits Ireland regularly so we have to arrange to meet up. Sean & Pam - Dublin

  • Did I enjoy it? Put it this way, the taxi arrived to bring me home at 6:30AM, i met him, paid him 5 euro to go home, and i stayed a second week!  Dave, Dublin

  • I had a great surf holiday at the Baleal surf House.  The surf instructors were great and really gave you personal advice- the small beginner group size was great and I really felt like I made some progress.  The accomodation and the surf school were great and the staff were really helpful and chilled, despite the fact I wanted to do a course from tuesday to tuesday rather than saturday.  All round a very happy customer. Suzannah, Uk

  • The surf house was great. It was awesome to have a BBQ available for use. More importantly, the surf was amazing!  The instructors were great - they were awesome teachers and really friendly.  They made a big effort to teach us all about surfing (how to read the waves, visit to the surf factory to see how the boards are made, surf etiquette etc.) which really made it a well rounded experience. We did a little tour of Peniche on a day when the surf wasn't great, which was a nice little bonus!  I had a fantastic surf holiday! Thanks for your help!  Sheena, Ontario, Canada

  • Had a great time in Baleal. The people and the service were first class. Transport to and from the airport was on time, no waiting at all. The location is very convenient, the surf centre/ bruno's bar couldn't be in a better spot. It was very handy to be able to turn up to the beach and get the same wetsuit and board that you were using all week, no lugging boards and wetsuits all over the place. The lads working in the surf camp were very helpful, again first class service. Lessons were good and the instructors were  enthusiastic and good at ironing out any kinks in your surfing.  Baleal had several bars and restaurants. Food was good and reasonably priced. (€10-20 main course) There is a very good seafood restaurant in Peniche, out near the lighthouse. We ate there as a group on two evenings, transport was organised by the guys in the surf camp. It was more expensive (€20-30 for main course) but was some of the best seafood that I've ever had. The town of Peniche is worth a visit. Went over on the Sunday when there were no lessons and also with the surf group. They take you over for a morning before the trip to the surf board factory. Overall it was a great surf holiday and I would definately go back. Brian, Ireland

  • Accommodation was really nice, great outdoor area for sitting around enjoying cold beers and having a bbq in the evening. Beds were grand, plenty of hot water for showers which was great. Spent most time around the beach - had a few restaurants and bars there which was good. Went to a really nice fish restaurant on a headland outside Peniche, can’t remember the name, maybe someone who was there that week knows. The guys in the surf base on the beach were great, really friendly, good boards and suits. All in all a good surf holiday, cheers for the organization and also the recommendation on the Living lounge hostel in Lisbon, probably the best hostel I’ve stayed in. Mark, Cork

  • The place was great! was very happy with the accommodation and the surf school. No complaints! Fran, Ireland

  • Surf Holiday was fantastic, completly exhausted after it! Everything was top notch especially the instructors who really pushed you from day one. Surfing wise it was a bit flat the first few days which was good to learn the basics. We never really went into Peniche, mainly because the craic was so good at the surf house. Bruno, Marcos are sound guys, helpful and will go for a beer with you. Bar de Bruno is good at the weekend, we mainly hit the cocktail bar (about 1km walk), most nights. As a solo traveler I would recommend it, I was surprised by the number of solo travelers there, so I didn't feel out of place. Overall an excellent trip, I'm thinking of heading back out in October for another week, highly recommend surfing to anyone! Ronan, Donegal – Ireland

  • I had a class time, weather was brilliant, accommodation was good. The surfing lessons were hard work with yoga at the start as a warm up, but great fun and great exercise. I meet loads of people and went to six bbq's each night! every night I ate for a tenner!!! To be honest Ill probably head back in September or October. Cheers for sorting me out, Ill get in contact with you all hopefully shortly. John, Meath, Ireland

  • I had a great time in Peniche thanks.  The accomodation was clean and comfortable, all the staff very friendly, and the surfing tuition was excellent.  So all in all a big thumbs up!! Thanks -  Tom UK

  • I couldn't rate the place highly enough. It really is incredible how it caters for all types of surfers  from me an absolute beginner to your full-time surfers. The hostel is fantastic and all of the staff: Marcos, Bruno, Andre and Luis were brilliant. Baleal beach and Peniche are both fantastic places to stay and I will without doubt be booking in again before the end of the summer. It's just brilliant for anyone interested in surfing as if the staff were'nt already great at giving advice the other residents, many of whom had been there for their 3rd visit, were practically surf Guru's for their willingness to give advice. Thanks again. - Niall, Ireland

  • Had the most amazing time in Peniche it was beautiful the surf was wow even got up on the board a few times!! Was going to even try the super tube!!! What really made the holiday was the people i met and Marcos and crew could not have been nicer guys and for that reason alone i will defo b going back. Thanks a million for one buz of a holiday - Orla, Ireland

  • Yeah it was great craic, Bruno really looked after us, he is a gas man. Crazy! It was a very good week, made some good buddys too. Lovely spot, will be back.Cheers! Ciara, Ireland

  • I just wanted to write to say thank you for such an amazing week, we had an incredible time! I wish it could have been for longer. The service, the lodgings and lessons were great and will def be coming back and telling people about it - Francois, Capbreton

  • Thank you again, you all did such an incredible job and now I’m addicted to surfing!!!! Big hugs to everyone, we miss you all already! - Silvie :) (UK)

  • Thank you for a great week at the Surf House. Also the day in Lisbon was an amazing way to end the trip, you two were the best guides to the city a tourist could wish for. Thanks again and see you soon! - Russel, England
