France  

France was the first country in Europe to popularise surfing. Most noteably in the South West corner. The area that starts from the Spanish border and on up north for 100 km's along the French coastline has some of the best surf beaches in Europe if not the world. The area within this stretching from Biarritz up to Hossegor & Capbreton is like a gold mine for surf and what surfing holidays France are famed for. The particular flow of the Ocean in this area means the water is warm throughout the summer making the need for wetsuits optional!!

The surf town of Biarritz offers a long summer surf scene that is unrivalled in Europe - every other week there is a different surf festival organised and the towns main surf beach La Côte des Basques is one of the best beginner/intermediate beaches that you will find and a great destination for learn to surf holidays. 25kms north of Biarritz is the surf town of Hossegor. It has become famous over the years for its world class beach breaks including La Graviere which plays host to Kelly Slater and the worlds best surfers in the Quiksilver Pro every September. Hossegor & its neighbour Capbreton also have some great beginners beaches making it a perfect learn to surf holidays destination. The area is full of beach bars and surf shops and is the surf mecca for any European surfer.
